PSV Eindhoven have been paired with German side Borussia Dortmund in the knockout phases of the Champions League.
The draw takes head coach Peter Bosz back to the club he managed for six months after leaving Ajax in 2017. He was sacked by Borussia after 24 games in charge, winning eight and losing nine.
It also marks a return to Eindhoven for Netherlands international striker Donyell Malen, who left PSV for Dortmund at the end of the 2020/21 season.
Director of football Earnest Stewart said PSV had drawn a βsuperb opponent.β βIt could definitely have been worse when you see who else was in there: Manchester City.β
The tie also spares PSV and their fans a potentially long journey, as Dortmund and Eindhoven are just 150 km apart.
The other Dutch clubs still in Europe, Feyenoord and Ajax, have been drawn in the play-off rounds of the Europa League and Conference League after dropping down a tier.
Feyenoordβs reward for finishing third in their Champions League group is yet another trip to Rome to face AS Roma, the team who beat them in the final of the Conference League two years ago and the quarter-finals of the Europa League last season.
Ajax will face BodΓΈ/Glimt of Norway in the Conference League play-off round. The next round of European competitions begins on February 13.
