More Dutch expats sign up to vote in European elections

In total, 90,357 Dutch nationals who live in another country have registered to vote in the EU elections via The Hague.

That is a rise of almost 30% on 2019. That year, 35,690 Dutch expats actually voted, equivalent to turnout of 56%.

The biggest group – almost 17,000 – live in Germany, followed by Belgium, Britain, France and the US.

The number of foreign nationals registering to vote in the Netherlands in the European elections of June 6 also rose by some 30% on 2019, according to home affairs ministry figures.

In total, 67,000 non-Dutch EU nationals will be eligible to vote, a rise of 17,000 on 2019. This is taking the 5,877 British nationals who can no longer vote into account, the home affairs ministry told Dutch News.
